Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

This policy explains what Datwork ("we", "us") collects when you use Reading Cat (part of Just Read It), how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to what the app needs to work.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following, and only when you use the matching feature.

  • Account details. You sign in with Apple. We receive an identifier that is unique to you and our app, and an identity token to verify it. If you choose to share them, we also receive your name and email address (Apple may give us a private relay address instead). We do not receive your Apple password.
  • A device identifier. The app creates a random identifier on your device and sends it when you sign in. It is not your advertising identifier and is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
  • Content you add. The articles you type or paste (title and text), whether an article is archived, the books on your desk, your finished list, and your reading position in each book (chapter and place in the text).
  • Text you look up. When you tap a word or a sentence, that text is sent to our server together with your language setting, so we can return a dictionary entry, a translation and an explanation.
  • Clipboard text. When the app opens, it can look at your clipboard and offer to paste text into a new article. The text is used only if you choose to paste it. The app keeps a one-way hash of the last pasted text on your device, only so it does not offer the same text again.
  • Basic server logs. Our servers record the time, the address of the request, the response status and your IP address. We use them to keep the service secure and to fix problems.

2. Information stored on your device

The app stores your sign-in tokens, your language and style choices, the device identifier described above, and a short-lived image cache (images are kept for about one hour). You can clear the image cache from the profile page. Deleting the app removes all of this.

3. What we do not collect

  • No advertising, no advertising identifier and no tracking across other companies' apps and websites.
  • No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
  • No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data.
  • Reading aloud uses the voices built into iOS. Nothing you hear is recorded or sent to us.

4. How we use information

  • To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
  • To store your desk, articles and reading progress and sync them across your devices.
  • To produce dictionary entries, translations and explanations for the text you look up.
  • To keep the service reliable, investigate problems, prevent abuse and answer your messages.

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

5. Who we share it with

We share information only with the providers that help us run the app, and only what each one needs:

  • Apple, to sign you in.
  • AI language-model providers we contract with. They receive the word or sentence you look up and the target language, so they can write the translation and explanation. We do not send your name, email or account identifier with it. Please do not look up text that contains information you do not want processed this way.
  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers that run our servers and store our data.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and of us.

6. Shared translation cache

To avoid generating the same answer twice, we keep the text that was looked up together with its translation or dictionary entry. This cache is not linked to your account, and a cached answer may be reused for other people who look up the same text. Your articles and reading progress are never shown to other users.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your account record, desk, finished list, reading progress and articles. Server logs are kept for a limited time and then removed. Cached translations are not linked to you and may remain.

8. Your choices and rights

You can edit, archive or delete your articles in the app and remove a book from your desk at any time. You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account and the data linked to it. Write to support@datwork.cn from the email address linked to your Apple ID, or give us enough account details for us to find you. We reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict some processing, or to complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Security

Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. Access to our servers and databases is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

Reading Cat is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law where you live. We do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Our servers and providers may be in a different country from yours. When we transfer information, we take steps so that it stays protected as described in this policy.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
